Dan Roth is the Center's Director and a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and the UIUC Beckman Institute of Advanced Science and Technology (UIUC). In addition, Dr. Roth is a Willett Faculty Scholar of the College of Engineering. Professor Roth received his B.A Summa cum laude in Mathematics from the Technion, Israel, in 1982 and his Ph.D in Computer Science from Harvard University in 1995. Professor Roth's research spans both theoretical work in machine learning and intelligent reasoning and work on applying learning and inference to intelligent human-computer interaction focusing on learning and inference for natural languages understanding related tasks and intelligent access to free form textual information. Professor Roth has published over 100 papers in machine learning, natural language processing, knowledge representation and reasoning and has developed a learning system that has been used widely in this field.
