David Forsyth, Professor of Computer Science, UIUC

David Forsyth is a full professor at University of Califonia at Berkeley (on leave of absence) and at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He holds a BSc and an MSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and an MA and D.Phil from Oxford University. Professor Forsyth has published over 100 papers on computer vision, computer graphics and machine learning. He has held numerous honors, including a Rhodes Scholarship, an NSF Young Investigator award and an Okawa Foundation Fellowship. His recent textbook, Computer Vision: A Modern Approach (joint with J. Ponce and published by Prentice Hall) is now widely adopted as a course text (adoptions include MIT, U. Wisconsin- Madison, UIUC, Georgia Tech and U.C. Berkeley); the book is now available in English, Chinese and Russian, with a projected Japanese translation near completion.
